11/24/2004: "Racism and Dr Rice"

I have been busy, and I need to prioritize my comments to post, oh well. I read the part of Mike's post on the Iraqi blog that I didn't finish reading the rest.

The issue of racism and Condeleeza Rice deserves its own thread. Mike is absolutely right on this one.

It absolutely amazes me that some of these political cartoonist, and it is pretty easy to see they are probably democrats, are not called to account for their disgusting, racist, sickening images of Dr Rice. One had a large lipped Rice depicted as a parrott. Another took the racist image of the maid in "Gone with the wind", to lampoon Rice. Both of these have featured many anti-bush cartoons in the past.

Just as sickening is the silence from the democrats. I couldn't agree more with Mike. In some cases, democrats are pouncing on Dr Rice with snarling vehemence, but they are the same Dems that are ultra timid toward disagreements with Bush or Cheney (or Rummy, or Wolfie, or Fieth, or Daniels). Why? I think it is because she is black, or a woman, or both.

I personally think that Bush owes a great deal to Dr Rice. She really is quite brilliant, and she has had to try and clean up the National Security mess created by Bush and Company (or maybe Cheney and Company). She gets in front of "Meet the Press" or "Face the Nation" and eloquently defends Bush's madness. This takes incredible intellect, guts, and grace.

The larger issue has to do with Democrats who take African-Americans for granted. Any black person who dares to be a conservative is called an "uncle tom" This is incredibly racist. It is basically saying that black people cannot think for themselves and need white democrats to "lead" them. If anyone has read "Autobiography of Malcom X", this is exactly what he despised about white liberals.

What didn't get nearly enough attention in this years election is the Senate race in Illinois that featured two intellegent, passionate, candidates debating the issues. And they just happened to be black. I thought that was great! While I disagree with Keyes on many issues, he is a very bright individual, and I hope he stays in politics.

But many democrats are "shocked, shocked" anytime a black person would dare to be a republican. I personally want a world where people are democrat or republican or whatever because they have chosen, and that every group is able to align themselves anywhere along the political spectrum.

Bob, I could not agree more. I personally found offensive the comments from pundits that included terms like "Oreo cookie", "Aunt Jemima", and statements that President Bush now has someone who will do his will. Implying she does not hold independent ideas where all of the white guys are running Bush because he is such an idiot. Amazing! When you include the persecution of Janice Brown and Miguel Estrada it does not bode well for the democrats. Jessie Jackson felt obligated to point out to the Kerry campaign the dismal representation of people of color in power positions within the campaign. He is seeing a trend that he must battle if he is to represent his constituency. The democrats currently enjoy a 85-90% advantage in the black vote. But, if they continue to impugn qualified candidates who do not agree with their ideology, then their advantage will be lost. Already there are voices calling to black voters that they increase their leverage and power by not being beholden to the Democratic Party. If republicans can reach out and recruit this voting base then the democrats will be in big trouble when we begin to see the black vote splitting 70-30 or 60-40.
