Please be aware that these guidelines have been documented throughout the Spurs-list's history to reflect basic Internet etiquette, as well as to reflect the needs and wants of the Spurs-list members in general.
These guidelines are exist purely to make the Spurs-list fun and easy to use for everyone. So please regard them in the best intention that they were written for.
This is quite a long document to read so the first section summarises all the guidelines concisely in about a page. To understand the points being addressed you will need to read on past the summary where each point is described in greater detail.
Your subscription to this list is given as a privilege, not a right. Thus the Spurs-list is not a moderated list, you can post what you like to it, provided you have been granted posting rights and that you comply with these guidelines. But freedom involves responsibility! Please do not let your postings to the Spurs-list be cause for complaint.
How do I get help?
You can e-mail help@thfc.org with any questions, requests or problems you may have. Please do not post these to the Spurs-list. Make sure you direct any subsequent correspondence to help@thfc.org and not directly to the admin you are in discussion with.
Bear in mind that the admins who deal with e-mails sent to the help address are humans also, and have their own lives to lead, so don't expect a speedy reply, especially on match day. :)
How do I unsubscribe from the Spurs-list?
Send an e-mail to majordomo@thfc.org. In the message's body - NOT THE SUBJECT LINE - write the following:
| unsubscribe Spurs-list ADDRESS |
| end |
Remember to substitute the word ADDRESS with your e-mail address.
Please bear in mind that you cannot unsubscribe anyone else from the list. So, if your e-mail address changes, you will find that you cannot unsubscribe your old address from your new address.
How do I resubscribe to the Spurs-list?
Send an e-mail to majordomo@thfc.org. In the message's body - NOT THE SUBJECT LINE - write the following:
| subscribe Spurs-list ADDRESS |
Remember to substitute the word ADDRESS with your e-mail address.
Please bear in mind that you cannot subscribe other addresses other than your own to the list. If you try to do so the admin will be informed and will make a decision whether to allow the subscription to go ahead or not.
Spurs-list Etiquette
BE A LURKER, INITIALLY
Avoid any initial urge to introduce yourself to the Spurs-List subscribers. Such messages are sometimes regarded as rather naive (at best). Spend some time reading the e-mails that are sent to the Spurs-list. This initial period will help you to familiarise yourself to the (ongoing) threads and customs of the Spurs-List.
SPURS RELATED ONLY
Please keep your postings to the Spurs-list spurs related. Sometimes a thread can begin by being spurs related but rapidly turn into a thread that is totally non-spurs related. Avoid perpetuating these kinds of threads.
POST-MATCH CONSIDERATIONS
Membership of the Spurs-List is truly global. This means that many of us get to see Spurs matches via delayed satellite broadcasts. Consequently, the Spurs-list has adopted an approach to keep unofficial match updates off the main list. An official "live" match-updates service is provided quarter-hourly by the Scores Update Administrator.
Comments posted to the Spurs-List regarding a match played within the previous 48 hours must use the word SPOILER in the subject heading. This alerts people who may not want to read the message yet. Please ensure that you choose a neutral subject line for your message. If in doubt, you can always use the subject 'SPOILER: Spurs v other team'.
NEWS ARTICLES
Any Spurs-related news should be sent to the official Spurs-List news providers at news@thfc.org. They will always cite you as the source! This ensures that each item of news only appears on the Spurs-list once. Make sure you provide the official Spurs-list News Hounds with the source of your information so that they can include it (partly for copyright reasons).
SUPPORTERS OF OTHER CLUBS
Occasionally, supporters of other clubs subscribe to the Spurs-List. We welcome them to the List provided their behaviour is not disruptive. As with any Spurs-List subscriber, if they say something which is clearly intended to start a flame war, do not give them the satisfaction! Instead, send a copy of the message to the list admin at ADMIN@THFC.ORG and they will take the relevant action.
We have reciprocal agreements with several other lists which will result in a disruptive person being banned from those lists too.
IS THE LIST WORKING?
Please do not post test messages to the list. If there is a problem with the mailing list it will be communicated to you in due course. If you wish to know whether there is a problem with the Spurs-list you can either e-mail help@thfc.org or try connecting to http://www.thfc.org. If you cannot connect to it then it is a good indicator that something is wrong.
GENERAL INTERNET NETIQUETTE
If you're new to the Internet then you should pay attention to the following guidelines. They are not specific to the Spurs-list but to any mailing list in general. However, they are included here for those people who have never used a mailing list before:
QUOTING
The worst thing you can do is to quote an entire message and add one line to the discussion such as "I agree!" or "What an idiot". Remember that many subscribers to the Spurs-List pay by the byte for e-mail so you are costing them good money!
If you must quote ONLY include the SPECIFIC lines you are referring to. A long quote prior to your own comments acts as a strong disincentive for people to read your message.
online Strategie 7 card poker MAIL MESSAGE FORMAT
Please use plain text ONLY when posting to the Spurs-list. Many mailers nowadays add HTML formatting or enriched text to e-mails. NOT EVERYONE HAS MAIL READERS THAT SUPPORT THESE FORMATS. To these people your e-mails will be almost unreadable. Not to mention the significant overhead on everyone's resources these sort of posts demand.
Similarly, DO NOT POST BINARIES to the Spurs-list. If you want to send a picture or a cool spurs program to the list place it on a web server and send the URL to the list.
SHOUTING
WRITING IN CAPITALS IS REGARDED AS SHOUTING. Thus if you write your entire posting in capital letters you not only come across to others like a lecturing idiot, you also lower peoples opinion of you as they regard you as someone who hasn't got a clue.
TO POST, OR NOT TO POST?
There is a great temptation to fire off a reply to the Spurs-List after you have read something that you do not agree with, do agree with or think stupid or wrong. Therefore, please think before you post, and avoid "one-liner" postings.
This is an intelligent discussion forum for intelligent fans. Please make sure before submitting anything that it is up to the quality we should expect from Spurs' supporters!
Are you likely to add anything new to the debate? Will other Spurs-List subscribers be interested in your contribution? Is your posting LIBELLOUS? (In which case you are legally responsible!)
Please do not submit pointless postings, i.e. anything that is not going to be of interest to the rest of the list. If you have a question that can be easily answered by looking at web pages or some other source, such as "what was Saturday's score?" or "what does Audere est Facere mean?", don't ask it on the list. Other questions or requests are of course welcome!
ERROR MSG In MOST cases the best option is to send a private e-mail to the author, and NOT to the Spurs-List. If you are unsure of the content of your posting, please email it to HELP@THFC.ORG, who will forward it to the Spurs-List if it is deemed relevant.
FLAMEING
Flameing is the term used to describe a personal verbal attack, usually insulting, on someone else. However much you may disagree with someone's opinion, PLEASE KEEP ANY FLAMES OR INSULTS OFF THE LIST. Everyone can have their say or vent their opinions on the Spurs-List within the guidelines.
Argument is welcomed; reasoned, intelligent argument is preferred. Personal attacks, insults, and the suchlike will NOT BE TOLERATED on the Spurs-List. Try to keep your arguments civil as insults generate far more heat than light. Persistent breach of this will result in you being removed from the Spurs-list.
RESPONDING TO MESSAGES
hotel kempinski Langstini Check the destination of your message is correct before hitting send. If you reply to a message on the Spurs-List, it will ONLY go back to the author. If you want your message to go to the entire Spurs-List you must "reply-to-all" or enter Spurs-list@thfc.org in the cc: field of your e-mail.
hotel rooms Helsingborg FULL MAIL BOXES
If your personal e-mail account has a limit on the amount of storage (and hence e-mail) space it has , you must ensure it does not fill up. If the Spurs-list admin receive a message that your mailbox is full, you will be unsubscribed from the Spurs-list, as these messages use up valuable space and Spurs-list admin time. When you are certain that your e-mail account is working satisfactorily again you will need to resubscribe yourself to the Spurs-list.
If you are going away for a long time - such as on holiday - you may need to unsubscribe from the Spurs-list in case your mailbox fills up. Please check with your Internet Service Provider or your local mail administrator to see how large your mailbox is and whether there is any limit on your e-mail storage space.
AUTOMATIC MAIL RESPONDERS
Please do not turn on any automatic responders or set Reply-on receipt to messages as you will become very unpopular very rapidly and will be immediately unsubscribed from the Spurs-list. If you have to turn automatic responses on because you are going away on holiday you will need to unsubscribe from the Spurs-list for the duration of your vacation.
SIGNATURES AND SIGNATURE FILES
Please do not attach large pieces of ASCII art to your e-mails: it is very annoying and wastes bandwidth. Signature files should be limited to under 300 characters or four 80-character lines of text. If you are responding to a message, please do not quote the other person's signature or the message header. You should also take care not to include the Spurs-List signature in your responses either.
EMOTICONS AND ACRONYMS
E-mail is a very bland medium to communicate on. It is difficult to tell what sort of a mood the author is in when they are writing a message. Humour is especially hard to convey over e-mail. However, Internet users have overcome this by using special icons and acronyms to bring their message across more easily. Emoticons are symbols which look like faces (when you tilt your head) which are used to show an emotion. There also are acronyms that are used in the same way. here are a few common examples:<\P>

| :D | = | smile/laughing/big grin |
| ;) | = | wink |
| :( | = | frown/sad |

GOING ON HOLIDAY When you are going on holiday there are some considerations you will need to know about:
Make sure your mailbox won't get full while you're away. If your mailbox does fill up while you're away and Spurs-list postings start getting returned to the mailing list server, you will be immediately unsubscribed from the Spurs-list. You will then need to resubscribe yourself to the list to receive Spurs-list postings again.
No auto responders. People who post to the Spurs-list don't want to get a mail back from you saying that you are on holiday for two weeks. If you have no choice but to turn auto responders on then you must unsubscribe yourself from the Spurs-list and resubscribe yourself upon your return.
There is no option to set your address to NO MAIL on this mailing list. That is to say, stay subscribed to the Spurs-list but not receive any postings. The best way to stop receiving messages while on holiday is to just unsubscribe yourself from the Spurs-list altogether and resubscribe yourself when you return.
Unsubscribing youself from the Spurs-list while you go on holiday does not mean that you will lose your posting rights. Of course, if you didn't have posting rights in the first place it won't matter. Just make sure that you resubscribe yourself from exactly the same address you were subscribed from before you left.
POSTING RIGHTS In order to post your own articles to the Spurs-list you need to have posting rights enabled for the address you will be posting from. New subscribers to the Spurs-list do not have posting rights. Any attempt to post made by someone without posting rights will result in a message being sent back to them, the Spurs-list admin being alerted also.
Posting rights are granted for the address you are posting from ONLY. If you try to post from any other address you will not be able to, with results as described above.
ERROR MSG In order to obtain posting rights you have to have a verifiable e-mail address. Anonymous remailers like hotmail.com do not guarantee a readily verifiable identity. The Spurs-list listees like people who post to the Spurs-list to be accountable for what they write which is why this guideline is here.
You must then e-mail help@thfc.org stating that you have read and understood the Spurs-list guidelines and that you are willing to abide by them. Posting rights will then be enabled for the e-mail address you are posting from ONLY.
If you wish to post from more than one address, say for example if you wanted to be able to post both from work and from home, you must inform the Spurs-list admin by e-mailing them at help@thfc.org. When you e-mail your request you must do it from the account with which you have posting rights and state the second e-mail address from which you wish to also post. You must then send a confirmatory e-mail from that second address before posting rights will be granted.
If you are unsubscribing from the Spurs-list or the Spurs-digest permanently and have posting rights then please drop the admin a line at help@thfc.org and let them know as a matter of courtesy. This also applies if you know you are losing or changing your e-mail account permanently.
SPURS-LIST DIGESTS If the amount of mails pouring daily into your mailbox from the Spurs-list gets too much from you, there is an alternative. A complementary mailing list, called Spurs-digest, can send you a single e-mail daily with all the posts that were made that day. Each digest is formatted in a readable manner which significantly reduces the amount of space which would otherwise take up your mailbox. Each digest is sent out at midnight GMT/BST.
How do I subscribe (or resubscribe) to the Spurs-digest?
Send an e-mail to majordomo@thfc.org. In the message's body - NOT THE SUBJECT LINE - write the following:
| subscribe Spurs-digest ADDRESS |
Remember to substitute the word ADDRESS with your e-mail address.
Please bear in mind that you cannot subscribe other addresses other than your own to the digest list. If you try to do so the admin will be informed and will make a decision whether to allow your subscription to go ahead or not.
How do I unsubscribe to the Spurs-digest?
Send an e-mail to majordomo@thfc.org. In the message's body - NOT THE SUBJECT LINE - write the following:
| unsubscribe Spurs-digest ADDRESS |
Remember to substitute the word ADDRESS with your e-mail address.
Please bear in mind that you cannot subscribe other addresses other than your own to the digest list. If you try to do so the admin will be informed and will make a decision whether to allow your subscription to go ahead or not.
You do not have to be subscribed to the Spurs-list to be subscribed to the spurs digest. Why would you want to? You'd only be receiving the same e-mails twice.
No-one can post to the Spurs-digest list. However, even if you are only subscribed to the digest list you can still post to the Spurs-list. In order for you to do so you need to be given posting rights to the Spurs-list, provided you are eligible to be given posting rights and abide by the same Spurs-list guidelines. In order to be granted posting rights simply follow the guidelines in section 6 of this document.
