As one of the top technology centers of the Southwest, Dallas has been a favorite of corporations looking to relocate their headquarters to a warm, friendly climate and a low cost of living. Although Dallas is just the seventh largest city in America, it ranks third as home to the most Fortune 500 industrial company headquarters. A few of the companies based in the Metroplex home include American Airlines, J. C. Penney, Frito-Lay, Exxon, Mobil, Southland, Southwest Airlines, GTE, EDS, Texas Instruments, Tandy Corporation, Kimberly Clark and Mary Kay Cosmetics. The personality of Dallas is one of metropolitan sophistication, Southwest charm, and western independence. The dynamic city offers plenty of diversity, with everything from quiet northern suburbs like Coppell, Plano, and Carrollton, to the posh Park Cities, to more rural areas with plenty of land and trees, to a lively arts district. Fort Worth, only a few miles to the west, is a "blue jeans and cowboy boots" contrast to Dallas glitter and lights. Fort Worth takes a more casual, down-home, western approach to life, while offering the excellent business base for the advanced industries that Texas is well-known for. Fort Worth and its surrounding cities are home to many high-tech defense companies, the booming Alliance Airport, the new Texas International Raceway, and is the primary benefactor of the increased trade with Mexico, a result of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The Metroplex Offers So Much to its Citizenry: Central U.S. Location Makes Getting There Easy: DFW International Airport, a facility located between Dallas and Fort Worth and larger than the island of Manhattan, boasts hubs for American and DeltaAirlines and offers excellent facilities for locals to zip from home to any of nearly two hundred worldwide non-stop destinations with little wasted time and effort. Close in to downtown is Dallas Love Field, home base for Southwest Airlines, offering extraordinary convenience to cities in the Southwest, with nearly hourly flights to cities like Houston, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and others. Professional Sports: Big "D", as its known to Texans everywhere, is home to many professional sports teams, such as the NFLs often world champion Dallas Cowboys (but definately not this year), the NBAs Dallas Mavericks, the NHLs Dallas Stars, and baseballs Texas Rangers. Higher Education: Colleges in the area include Southern Methodist University, University of Dallas, University of Texas at Dallas, and Baylor University, just to name a few. The state offers so many other world class universities, such as University of Texas, Texas A&M, Rice University, and Texas Tech. giving parents plenty of excellent choices for their kids, without having to wander far from home. Dallas SAT test scores: http://www.dallasmetroplex.com/Sch9395.htm Shopping: Dallas is the center of the fashion industry and a major center for the wholesale giftware, apparel, and furnishings industries. The Metroplex offers more shopping centers per capita than any other U.S. city. The most recent addition is the huge "outlet+" Grapevine Mills shopping mall, just north of the DFW Airport. Quality of Life The Metroplex offers a great quality of life, further accentuated by a relatively affordable cost of living. Money goes a long way, especially in housing, when compared to cities like New York, Chicago, Seattle, Salt Lake, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. Texans bring more home as well, with no state income tax to pay. Dallas has excellent medical facilities with over (70) hospitals and numerous medical centers as well. Many of the suburbs have school systems that consistantly beat national average SAT scores, while crime levels come in well below. Lastly, Dallas offers a warm climate that extends its residents abilities to enjoy outdoor recreation for much of the year. Whether you prefer hitting the links, boating on area lakes, taking in the stunning Dallas Arboretum, or hunting and fishing, Dallas is a great place to be. HOME |
