Raga Therapy

Ragas are composed of seven notes (called swaras) namely Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni.

They correspond to seven chakras (energy centers) in our body.

Sa stimulates Mooladhara (sex glands)

Ri stimulates Swadhishtana (kidneys)

Ga stimulates Manipuraha (pancreas/ liver)

Ma stimulates Anahatha (heart)

Pa stimulates Visudhi (thyroid)

Dha stimulates Agna (pituitary)

Ni stimulates Sahasrara (pineal)

For example Mohanam raga has a stress on the note 'Dha' which stimulates pituitary gland. Thus Mohanam can cure many hormonal imbalances since pituitary gland controls all other glands which secrete hormones.

72 nerve centres and 72 melakartha ragas

It is amazing to note that there are 72 nerve centres in our body. They correspond to 72 melakarta ragas or chief ragas. Each melakarta raga controls a particular nerve meridian.

Synaptic Gap and Layam

Between every note there is a gap called Layam. In our nervous system also there is a gap between two nerve cells which is called as synoptic gap. Through this gap information is passed from one cell to the other.

Mind-Body medicine

Glands, blood vessels, heart, lungs and intestines are regulated by the nervous system which in turn is controlled by the mind. Music creates a healthy mind and thus creates a healthy body.
